People {dead or alive} who are much more better known by their second names
The Tchaikovsky thread made me realise I had to struggle to remember his first names and eventually google to confirm. Any others that come to mind?

Incorrect, many famous Brazillian footballers are known by their nicknames (Pele, for example), generally attackers are given nicknames. Others are known by shortened versions of their names (Neymar etc), only very occasionally surnames. If more than one famous player has the same nickname then the lesser player is referred to by his area, ie Paulista etc
